wong-tun

it’s been almost a year since we got married, and i still have yet to decide if i want to change my last name or not. i’m leaning towards no… yes, it’s partially because of a woman’s right to her name and that i don’t want to feel like i lost my identity (EDIT: personal feeling, i’m not saying women who do it lost their identities), but in the end, it really just came down to the fact that i’m just too damn lazy. i mean, it’s really a lot of work. people tell me that it’s better to do it because you would want to have the same name as your children. i just shrugged and said the kids are gonna have my last name. however, it did get me to toy with the idea of a hyphenated last name, which ideally, our kids will also share.

WONG-TUN

although i think this would be kind of a cute last name if i owned a chinese noodle house, i can also foresee how this could be a really good reason for some kid to collect milk money from my kids. i don’t want to be seen as the mom that hates her kids.

on a related note, dave sent me this funny email, which shows why some brides shouldn’t hyphenate their last names:

maybe i’m a total dork, but i’m kind of digging hardy-harr…

  1. Those were really funny. I also had trouble deciding if I should change my name or not. It came down to how much it meant to my husband. He told me one night when we were talking about it that it would be the best present I could ever give him, to take his last name. That sealed the deal. I never knew it meant so much to some guys! Now I think it is kind of fun having a new last name and I don’t think that I lost my idenity!
